Start Your Career with a Live Event Learnership in Johannesburg
Are you passionate about live event production? Do you dream of working behind the scenes in sound, lighting, or stage setup? Joburg City Theatres (JCT) invites unemployed youth residing in the City of Johannesburg to apply for the NC Technical Live Event Learnership Programme.
This 12-month learnership offers hands-on experience in theatre production and leads to an NQF Level 4 qualification in Live Event Technical Production.
The Purpose of Live Event Learnership Programme
To equip unemployed youth with skills and real-world experience in the live events industry, covering lighting, sound, AV, stage rigging, and technical operations within a theatre environment.
Minimum Requirements
To apply for Live Event Learnership, you must:
- Have passed Grade 10, 11, or 12
- Be unemployed and aged 18–35 years
- Be a resident of the City of Johannesburg
- Be passionate about technical live event production
- Have good communication and interpersonal skills
- Have no criminal record
- Be able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English
- Be able to transport yourself to and from the theatre

Key Responsibilities
As a learnership participant, you will:
- Attend accredited training classes in technical production
- Gain hands-on work experience in a live theatre environment
- Assist with stage setup, sound checks, and lighting configurations
- Collaborate with theatre professionals during events and rehearsals
- Follow safety procedures and maintain backstage equipment
What You’ll Gain
- A monthly stipend of R3,500
