What the work involves

Cleaners maintain hygiene inside and around their assigned SAPS premises. Daily tasks include dusting, polishing furniture and floors, vacuuming carpets, mopping tiled floors and removing refuse. Bathrooms, kitchens, kitchenware and utensils also need cleaning.

The work extends beyond office cleaning. Duties include garden maintenance, washing state vehicles, loading and unloading goods, and routine maintenance around the premises. Cleaning aids and equipment must be handled safely and stored securely.

Screening and appointment conditions

Applicants must have no previous criminal convictions or pending criminal or departmental cases. Shortlisted candidates undergo an interview, a practical assessment and an integrity assessment. Screening may include fingerprints, references, address verification and a full security clearance. Original documents requested in the circular must be produced before the interview.

For identified posts, checks against the National Register for Sex Offenders and Part B of the Child Protection Register apply; candidates appearing in either register are disqualified. Applicants must disclose any interim or final protection order against them under the legislation identified in the advert, which may affect appointment.

New SAPS appointees must provide a buccal sample for the forensic DNA elimination database. People who left the Public Service through a severance package, early retirement or medical retirement are excluded. SAPS applies employment equity preferences to promote representivity and is not obliged to fill the posts. If you receive no response within three months after closing, regard your application as unsuccessful.
