The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for 381 Security Officer vacancies at the Mangaung Maximum Correctional Centre in the Free State and Northern Cape Region. Salary Packages

• CB1-1: R212 358 per annum
• CB1-2: R257 895 per annum
• CB1-3: R313 521 per annum

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / Grade 12
• Successful completion of:
  • Correctional Science Learnership OR
  • Basic Training OR
  • Induction Training Course (ITC)

Experience Requirements

• CB1-1: No experience required
• CB1-2: 10 years’ relevant experience on CB1-1
• CB1-3: 10 years’ relevant experience on CB1-2

Competencies and Skills

• Computer literacy
• Firearm competency
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Report writing skills
• Knowledge of:
  • Relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • Minimum Security Standards for Correctional Centres

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform access control at correctional centres
• Control movement of inmates internally and externally
• Guard inmates within correctional facilities and public institutions
• Conduct physical security inspections
• Control stores and security equipment
• Manage security control rooms
• Promote rehabilitation through correction and human development
• Ensure a safe, secure and humane detention environment
