Bidvest Facilities Management is seeking a reliable and skilled Handyman – General Building Maintenance to join our Cape Town team. This role is perfect for someone with strong technical skills, problem-solving ability, and a hands-on approach to building repairs and maintenance.
Handyman Role Purpose
To carry out timeous, professional, and quality maintenance – planned, preventive, and emergency – on all allocated equipment, ensuring compliance with service level agreements (SLAs) and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
As a Handyman – General Building Maintenance, your duties will include:
- Executing maintenance tasks in line with job cards and client requirements.
- Inspecting, evaluating, and repairing equipment malfunctions promptly.
- Performing minor electrical repairs and services on equipment and appliances.
- Handling office-related tasks such as furniture installations, shopfitting, repairing doors, locks, handles, windows, replacing ceiling/carpet tiles, and paintwork.
- Conducting basic plumbing maintenance in line with SLAs.
- Completing tier 1 inspections and repairs on air-conditioning systems.
- Inspecting and reporting on fire and access equipment (extinguishers, hose reels, hydrants, detectors, and access control).
- Assisting artisans with major repairs and servicing when required.
- Providing continuous feedback to supervisors on the progress of repair and restoration tasks.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the Handyman – General Building Maintenance role, you must have:
- Matric (Senior Certificate).
- N3 Technical qualification (Electrical/Mechanical).
- A valid South African Driver’s Licence.
- At least 3 years’ experience in general handyman maintenance tasks.
- Knowledge and basic training in using hand tools, electrical, and mechanical equipment.
- Sound understanding of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
