At SMH Group, we believe in giving people the confidence to grow and shape their future. We’re looking for a motivated Payroll Administrator Apprentice to join our Huddersfield team. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on payroll experience while completing your Level 3 Payroll Administrator Apprenticeship.

What You’ll Do

As a Payroll Apprentice, you’ll work alongside an experienced team, learning how to deliver accurate payroll services to clients.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Accurately entering payroll data across systems
  • Assisting with payroll calculations and staff benefits
  • Responding to client payroll queries (with support)
  • Preparing and distributing payslips, P45s, P60s, and P11D(b) forms
  • Contacting HMRC about PAYE queries
  • Providing general admin support to the payroll team
  • Building strong working relationships with clients
  • Assisting with reception duties and handling post

What We’re Looking For

No prior payroll experience is required – we’re more interested in your attitude and willingness to learn.

You’ll need:

  • Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Good organisation and time management
  • A proactive, client-focused mindset
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Entry requirements:

  • Minimum 5 GCSEs (Grade 4/C or above), including English & Maths
  • Ideally, some experience in a customer-focused role
