Introduction

The Department of Tourism, in partnership with Harambee, is offering unemployed South African youth an opportunity to apply for the Professional Cookery Learnership Programme 2025. This initiative aims to develop skills, create employment opportunities, and promote career growth within the hospitality and tourism sector.

Programme Details (Professional Cookery)

  • Duration: 12 months (fixed-term)
  • Stipend: R4,600 per month
  • Location: Various sites in Gauteng
  • Employer: Department of Tourism in partnership with Harambee
  • Contract: Learners will be required to sign a 12-month learnership contract
  • Assessment: Shortlisted candidates will undergo interviews to determine suitability

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen, aged 18–35 years
  • Must be unemployed at the time of application
  • Matric (Grade 12) with fluency in English
  • Preference for candidates with a Tourism or Hospitality qualification
  • Must submit the following with your CV:
    • Motivational letter
    • Certified ID copy
    • Certified copies of Matric and/or relevant certificates
    • Proof of residence
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours (weekends, public holidays, shifts)
  • Must have a passion for hospitality, food, and tourism
  • Candidates who previously participated in the Department’s skills or learnership programmes must declare it in their motivational letter
