Position Overview (Gauteng Forklift Driver)

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Forklift Driver to support our warehouse operations in Isando/Kempton Park. This role offers a guaranteed 90 hours per month, with a focus on safe, efficient, and accurate handling of stock, pallets, and vehicles.

The Gauteng Forklift Driver will ensure compliance with food safety standards, maintain equipment in optimal condition, and support a smooth flow of operations in a dynamic warehouse environment.

Key Responsibilities

Offloading Vehicles

• Operate a forklift to safely offload inbound vehicles.
• Stack stock efficiently in the warehouse.
• Inspect vehicles and stock for contamination before offloading.
• Meet vehicle Turnaround Time (TAT) targets.
• Prevent damage to stock or pallets during handling.

Sorting, Stacking, and Loading Pallets

• Offload and inspect empty pallets according to CHEP standards.
• Sort pallets into good and broken condition; wrap broken pallets safely.
• Maintain a tidy pallet area.
• Stack pallets correctly, observing maximum height limits.
• Load pallets back to CHEP and factories when required.

Loading Vehicles

• Inspect vehicles for contamination before loading.
• Assist Despatch Loaders with stock loading as per instructions.
• Load heavier products at the bottom and lighter items on top.
• Ensure stable and safe vehicle loading.

Forklift Operation & Maintenance

• Conduct daily forklift checks (battery, oil, lights, brakes, tires).
• Report faults to the supervisor immediately.
• Drive safely, adhering to warehouse speed limits.
• Handle stock carefully to avoid damage.
• Follow correct procedures for wheel chokes and equipment handling.

Ad Hoc Duties

• Clean forklifts using approved detergents.
• Schedule regular maintenance with external contractors.
• Assist in monthly stock counts and additional warehouse tasks.
• Respond to dynamic receiving operations, including extended shifts.

Qualifications & Experience

• Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
• Minimum 1 year experience operating a forklift.
• Valid forklift license and up-to-date medical clearance.
• Knowledge of CHEP pallet standards and handling requirements.
