Programme Overview
The Mondi Work Integrated Learning Programme (WIL) offers an exciting, 6-month opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the Pulp and Paper industry. This program is designed to develop the future operators and leaders of our workforce.
By the end of the programme, participants will be assessed and, if successful, deemed competent as entry-level operators.
Minimum Requirements for Work Integrated Learning
To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
- National Diploma in Chemical Engineering or Pulp & Paper Technology
- Minimum 60% average pass rate
- Completed P1 & P2 (preferably in a heavy industry environment – advantageous)
- Valid South African driver’s license
- Basic computer literacy (SAP and Microsoft Office preferred)
Key Deliverables
During the programme, you’ll be exposed to real-world plant operations and develop vital workplace skills:
- Learn to operate safely and efficiently under Mondi’s policies and standards
- Conduct pre-start checks and assist with start-ups/shutdowns
- Perform basic troubleshooting and identify equipment performance issues
- Practice chemical safety procedures
- Complete routine equipment checks and documentation
- Support in housekeeping, process operations, and continuous improvement
Outcomes You’ll Achieve
By the end of the Work Integrated Learning Programme, you will be equipped to:
- Operate equipment and follow process workflows
- Maintain safety compliance and quality standards
- Complete daily reports, checklists, and logs
- Troubleshoot equipment failures and assist in optimization
- Apply continuous improvement techniques at an entry-level capacity
